THE HEART BEHIND THE YEAR

You don’t have to fit a lifetime
of guidance into one conversation.

The years move quickly. A weekly rhythm gives you a place to begin and a reason to come back. Read together. Listen well. Share your experience. Help a young man practice responsibility while reminding him where he can turn: Christ, Scripture, prayer and the body of Christ.

SIMPLE ENOUGH TO KEEP COMING BACK

A little reading.
A real conversation.
One practical step.

  1. 01

    Prepare your heart

Use the adult guide’s short reading and preparation prompts. Bring a true story, a question and a willingness to listen.

  2. 02

    Meet and talk

Read the Scripture passage in context. Choose a few questions. Give him room to think, ask questions and choose what to share.

  3. 03

    Practice, then return

Agree on one action for the week. Use the workbook to reflect. At the next meeting, talk about what happened and what you learned.

A NOTE FROM BEN

“I needed a plan that would
hold me accountable, too.”

I have four children. When my son turned seventeen, I realized how quickly the years had passed. I wanted to make the most of the year before eighteen.

I wanted him to know he was deeply loved, that I would still be there for him, and that he could turn to Christ, Scripture, prayer and other believers for guidance.

I also needed a weekly structure to help me follow through. This project grew from that desire: to make room for honest conversations and help him build his life on Christ.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

A few honest questions.

Who is this designed for?

A young man during the year between his seventeenth and eighteenth birthdays, meeting with his father or an appropriate trusted mentor. The birthday is a transition; your relationship and guidance can continue beyond this year.

Is Christian faith central to the books?

Yes. Jesus Christ is the foundation. Scripture, prayer and Christian community shape the weekly conversations and practical steps. You read the referenced passages in your own Bible.

How much reading is involved?

The books use brief weekly sections, illustrations, conversation prompts and writing space. You do not need to read the whole book before beginning. Prepare one week at a time and adapt the conversation to your setting.

Why separate Father and Mentor Guides?

The 52-week learning path is coordinated, while the adult preparation reflects your role. The Mentor Guide includes guidance for working within family and program arrangements. Choose one adult guide and pair it with the Young Man Workbook.

What if we miss a week?

Agree on your next meeting and continue. The goal is a dependable relationship and steady practice. Finishing every page is not a measure of anyone’s worth or maturity.

Do we need expensive activities?

No. The heart of the experience is your time and attention. Use practical actions that fit your circumstances and choose accessible alternatives when needed.

Can our church or mentoring program use it?

The Mentor Guide is intended for appropriate Christian mentoring settings. Group copying, digital distribution and organization licensing are not included unless specific terms are agreed. Group purchasing and support arrangements will be clarified before an organization offer opens.

Can I buy the books now?

The shop shows the status of each format. Printable PDFs are available through our secure checkout. After purchase, check your email for access to your downloads. Paperbacks will link to Amazon after publication.
